Prof Antonio Bartorelli

Dr. Bartorelli is currently Full Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Milan (Italy).  He spent 3 years (1987-1989) as Visiting Scientist under the supervision of Dr. Martin Leon at the Cardiology Branch of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.  As Director of the Interventional Cardiology department of the “Monzino” Cardiology Center in Milan (Italy) since 1992, he coordinates a group of 15 interventional cardiologists who perform over 4400 diagnostic and interventional (coronary, peripheral and structural) procedures every year, of which over 2400 are PCI. Dr. Bartorelli has published 353 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and 25 book chapters. He is a reviewer for several international scientific journals. Since 1995, he is an invited faculty member of the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) meeting.He is Fellow of the Italian Society of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology. He is Member of the Editorial Board of Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions.

Dr Joost Daemen

Dr. Joost Daemen, MD, PhD is a senior interventional cardiologist at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In 2005, he finished medical school at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Between 2005 and 2008 he completed a PhD project entitled “The caveats of drug-eluting stents – a critical appraisal of the safety concerns”. After obtaining his PhD Cum Laude, he commenced his clinical training and interventional cardiology training at the Thoraxcenter in Rotterdam and partly at Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland.

Dr Vasileios Panoulas

Dr Vasileios Panoulas is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust and honorary senior clinical lecturer at Imperial College London.

After graduating from the School of Medicine at the University of Ioannina, Greece, Dr Panoulas completed a PhD in genetic regulation of hypertension in patients with rheumatoid arthritis at Russells Hall Hospital in Birmingham and the University of Ioannina. He also holds an MSc in interventional cardiology from Universita Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Milan, Italy.

Dr Panoulas has a special interest in complex coronary angioplasty, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and percutaneous mechanical assist devices for treatment of acute cardiogenic shock.

Professor Dr. med. Hagen Kälsch ist leitender Oberarzt und Stellvertreter des Chefarztes der Klinik für Kardiologie, Elektrophysiologie, Gastroenterologie und Intensivmedizin im Alfred Krupp Krankenhaus in Essen. Sein Medizinstudium absolvierte er bis 2004 in Freiburg im Breisgau und startete anschließend seine Laufbahn als Arzt im Uniklinikum Essen. Er ist Facharzt für Innere Medizin und Kardiologie mit der Zusatzbezeichnung Intensivmedizin.

Im Mai 2020 wurde er zum APL-Professor der Fakultät für Gesundheit der Universität Witten/Herdecke ernannt.

Prof. Kälsch ist Mitglied in den Gesellschaften DGIM, DGK, DHL, ESC und FESC.

Prof. Nicolas Van Mieghem is Director of the department of Interventional cardiology at the Thoraxcenter. He obtained his medical degree and cardiology degree at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. After subsequent fellowships in interventional cardiology at the Oost-Limburg Hospital in Genk, Belgium, the Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, USA, and the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands in February 2010, he joined the Department of Interventional Cardiology at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus MC as a staff member. In 2019, he was appointed Full Professor of Interventional Cardiology.

He is involved in the percutaneous coronary interventions and structural heart program. He obtained the degree of PhD based upon his research in transcatheter valve therapies.

Dr Lionel Leroux

Dr Lionel Leroux started his career in 1996 as a cardiologist in Bordeaux. In 2001, he also achieved the MD in Biology and Health there. He is involved in Interventional Cardiology and  Structural Heart since 2007. As study director he was responsible for numerous studies in the field of coronary and percutaneous valve treatment and is part of many publications .

Dr Khalid Abozguia

Dr Abozguia is a consultant cardiologist with expertise in electrophysiology and cardiac device implantation. He is the clinical lead for Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) Sevices at Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool Victoria Hospital. He was trained in the United Kingdom and the United States. He performs catheter ablations for cardiac arrhythmias such as supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and atrial flutters as well as complex catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). Dr Abozguia implants simple and complex cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators. Dr Abozguia did perform the first leadless pacemaker implant in the Blackpool area.

He has IBHRE accreditation in electrophysiology (CEPS) and cardiac devices (CCDS) in the USA 2013. He was awarded a PhD Degree in Cardiology, University of Birmingham, UK 2010. He has an extensive publishing record with over 30 scientific papers in high-impact factor journals as well as over 45 abstracts. He has performed a large number of scientific presentations at a national and international level (BCS, BHRS, ESC, ACC and AHA).

Dr Abozguia has a special interest in medical education and research. He is co-editor of education website 'ecardia.org'.

Dr Marco Ancona

Dr Marco Ancona is an interventional cardiologist at the Interventional Cardiology and Hemodynamics Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital directed by Dr Matteo Montorfano. From a clinical point of view, Dr. Ancona mainly deals with percutaneous coronary angioplasty (PTCA), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and percutaneous closure of the patency of the oval shape (PFO). Over the years he has gained substantial experience in managing MCS. As regards the research activity, the doctor deals in particular with percutaneous myocardial revascularization, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), percutaneous correction of mitral and tricuspid insufficiency and percutaneous closure of the left auricle. He is the author and co-author of numerous publications in national and international scientific journals and of book chapters.

Dr. David Schibilsky is senior physician at the Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery at the University Heart Center Freiburg - Bad Krozingen. He completed his training in Freiburg in 2011, then worked until 2017 in the Clinic for Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital of Tübingen

where he worked as a senior physician. In 2013, he visited the DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, Houston, USA  through the International traveling scholarship of ISHLT and as a Senior Transplant Fellow at the Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, UK as part of the ESOT Fellowship.

He was Awarded the Norman E. Shumway Career Development Award of the ISHLT for a research project on ex-vivo organ perfusion in 2018.

Since 2017, he is editor of the journal for Herz-, Thorax und Gefäßchiurgie (DGTHG), as well as assistant editor at EJCTS and ICVTS since 2019

Dr Astrid Quessard

Dr Quessard started is career in 2003 as an anesthesiologist and ICU in Strasbourg. Since then, she had an extensive experience in cardiology, cardiac surgery, MCS in Paris, La Pitié Salpétrière, and CHU Bordeaux.

She is part since 2015 of the Heart Team in Bordeaux University Hospital. She also early developed a deep interest in Echography imaging and is involved in Structural Heart field.

Dr Corstiaan Uil

Dr Corstiaan den Uil is medical director of the 18-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This department admits 3.000 patients each year from Cardiology and Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. His activities address patient care and scientific research. His research lines focus on temporary mechanical circulatory support and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Dr. Mara Scandroglio works as head of the Intensive Cardiac Surgery at San Raffaele.

The Anesthesia and Reanimation San Raffaele Research Center plays a leading role in national and international scientific production in the anesthesiology and resuscitation field, with important synergies with the most important research groups, resulting in numerous scientific publications and the development of both clinical and translational research protocols .

Over the years, the doctor has gained a great deal of experience in the management of patients with acute and chronic heart failure with pharmacological and mechanical support to the circulation (IABP, ECMO arterial venous and IMPELLA. Innovative pharmacological treatments. Pre- and post-operative management of the patient undergoing to implantation of LVAD (left ventricular assist device), RVAD (right ventricular assist device) and total artificial heart (TAH).
